General Slocum

A 264-inch side-wheel streamer, this excursion boat has caught fire and sank and may have left 1,000 lives lost with several hundreds injured during the St. Mark’s Church excursion on June 15, 1904.

Antikythera Wreck

A Roman merchant ship, it was found by the sponge drivers off the coast of Antikythera in Greece in 1900. A relic of the 1st or 2nd BCE; valuable finds include the classical bronze sculpture Statue of Youth and the oldest known analog computer, the Antikythera mechanism.

Andrea Doria

The flagship of the Italian Line, this luxurious liner that accommodated 1,241 passengers and 575 crews was built in Genoa and was launched in 1951. However, while navigating through a dense fog on July 25, 1956; it collided with the Swedish freighter with no logical explanation, but for misread radar readings.

Monitor

During the war between North and South, construction of the ironclad Monitor came into being to fight against the CSS Virginia in a ship-to-ship engagement. However, by the end of 1862, both of them were gone with the Virginia blown up by her crew to prevent capture; while the Monitor fell through in a gale off Cape Hatteras, North Carolina.

HMS Victory

Lost in 1744 under the command of Admiral Sir John Balchin, it was discovered by Odyssey 100km from where it was historically believed to have been wrecked after a violent storm in the Channel Islands. Odyssey was able to recover the 12-pounder cannon and a 4-ton, 42-pounder, the only known example of a gun of this type and size existing on dry land today.

SS Republic

Discovered by the Odyssey in 2003, this Civil War-era side-wheel steamship became lost in a hurricane on October 25, 1865 while sailing from New York to New Orleans. Discovered were more than 51,000 American gold and silver coins and 14,000 other artifacts, which now worth $120 to $180 million.

When this passenger ferry collided with the oil tanker, Vector, in Tablas Strait, near Marinduque, Philippines on December 20, 1987; it resulted in a fire that sunk the vessel killing 4,341 people.
